Much has transpired since our last entry. We are pleased to announce that former olympian and Jr. and Sr. National champion Michael Martin is now training with us as he prepares to make International teams next year going into the Olympic trials in 2012. He has been here a month and training is going well. Shane will resume serious training at the beginning of Sept. to prepare for the American Masters in Nov. I am also pleased to announce that the U.S. has a new resident coach in Colorado Springs, World and Olympic Champion Zygmunt Smalcerz. He is going to eventually update the USAW's training manuels. One major thing he is teaching the lifters at the OTC is that there is no jumping or triple extending in weightlifting. Triple extending is still widely taught in the U.S. which is directly responisble for our poor performances internationaly the last 25 years. Some quotes one resident athlete recently published by Zygmunt are, "Jumping? What is this Jumping? No Jumping! Go down, not up. Go down when the bar goes up." This is what Don McCauley and myself have been advocating for quite some time now. God willing the rest of the country will catch up with Zygmunt's help.

The last few training sessions after we tested on the 7th were light walk throughs. Shane competed at the Pam American Master in Montreal and lifted on the 20th. He snatched 101 kilos, 223 pounds, and clean and jerked 125 kilos or (275 pounds). He was in shape to do more but it would not have affected his overall placing. Shane's main competitor was John Fredy Vargas from Columbia and has lifted most of his life. Still we acheived our objective in winning silver. For the next couple of months shane will train on his own doing some strength training and mobility exercises. He will resume training in August to prepare for the American Masters Championships in Nov.
